Certification Standards for Professors and Teachers

IAA Certification Standards

  1. Professionalism
    1. There is a mission or purpose statement
    2. The professional understands the value proposition of services
    3. The professional is kind and respectful
    4. There is evidence by the professional of an appreciation for diversity and diverse perspectives
  2. Experience
    1. The professional has offered the services under this certification for to paying clients for at least 6 months 
  3. Education & Training
    1. The professional has all credentials necessary to use any titles they use in accordance with all laws and jurisdictions
    2. The professional has specialized training in the subject matter of certification for 2 months or 30 hours
    3. The professional has built a foundation of knowledge prior to specialized training  through
      1. Self-study, or
      2. Formal coursework
  4. Commitment to Continuous Learning
    1. There is evidence of the professional taking additional courses, webinars, and podcasts and/or attending conferences to total 20 hours per year
    2. There is a process by which the professional can receive feedback toward improvement. The professional does one of the below:
      1. Has Q and A sessions with clients
      2. Provides satisfaction surveys to clients
      3. Works with a business or executive coach
      4. Receives feedback and information from an advisory committee
      5. Has support personnel or website support section to gather client feedback
  5. Commitment to clients
    1. The professional has a process for learning the specific goals of each client.
    2. Clients are provided with Terms and Conditions that include the following:
      1. Cost of services
      2. Length of services
      3. Specifics of services rendered 
      4. Any expectations of the client
      5. Technology the clients needs to have and understand in order to be successful with the professional
      6. Any and all reasons the professional would have to cease working with the client as a result of the client’s behavior
    3. Clients are provided with a copy of any policies beyond the T and C’s (or can download one)
    4. Clients understand how to have questions answered
    5. Clients understand how to seek a refund
    6. The professional demonstrates a commitment to provide accessibility to a diverse population 
    7. The professional demonstrates an understanding of ethical behavior
    8. The professional has received training in ethics or ethical behavior
    9. A plan exists for supporting clients if the professional is not able to stay in business and services cannot be provided as expected by the client
  6. Service to the Community
    1. There is evidence the professional participates in regular volunteer service 
    2. The professional provides pro bono services at least once per year
    3. The professional either mentors, or makes oneself available to mentor, those newer to the profession
    4. There is a commitment by the professional to provide knowledge to a border community through 
      1. Publication of knowledge, wisdom, and skills that can help other people, or
      2. Presentations at conferences, or 
      3. Creation of podcasts or videos
  7. Commitment to teaching
    1. The instructor will consider learning styles when working with learners
    2. The instructor will optimize engagement with learners
    3. The instructor will build from the learner’s experience and knowledge base

    3. The professional finds out from the client all illnesses, allergies, medication, supplements, activities, and the like, that might pertain to the professional’s advice
    4. The professional honors dietary choices of the client unless it has been specifically stated in writing by the professional that they only support one type or school of thought in diet, meditation, massage therapy, energy work, etc.

    5. The spiritual practitioner seeks to understand the client’s experiences with religions and other practitioners to optimize their work
    6. The spiritual practitioner is aware of their own energy and its impact on the client
    7. The professional is careful when sharing their own beliefs and does so only when it is in service to the client
